Local store to employ 90 Alaskans

August 30, 2016 – Alaska’s first-ever Krispy Kreme Doughnuts shop opened its doors today. The first 100 people in line to the store, located at DeBarr and Muldoon, received gift cards for free doughnuts. Many came with stories of childhood memories about going to Krispy Kreme, but others showed up because they had heard how good the signature Original Glazed doughnuts are, but hadn’t ever had a chance to try one. Later in the morning, Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz helped cut the ribbon to the new store.
“This is just the beginning of Alaska’s Krispy Kreme story,” said Franchise Owner Jack Lewis.
Anchorage’s Krispy Kreme shares a building with BurgerFi (also owned by Lewis) and a Body Renew Gym and is part of a larger redevelopment of the former 68-acre Alaska Village Trailer Park in east Anchorage. Other recent additions in the area have included Begich Middle School, Grass Creek Village Apartments, Clearwater Village and Creekview Plaza 49.
Alaska’s first Krispy Kreme features a drive-through, premium coffee and more than a dozen of Krispy Kreme’s one-of-a-kind doughnuts, including the signature Original Glazed® doughnut loved by fans all over the world. Ninety Alaskans have been hired and trained to work at the Anchorage Krispy Kreme. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Krispy Kreme franchise in Anchorage is owned by Jack Lewis, Dick Hobbes and Ray Kizer. The building is owned by Jerry Neeser, Mark Pfeffer and Chignik Lagoon Native Corp. The building project team included Pfeffer Development, Neeser Construction, KPB Architects, Northrim Bank and Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA). The interior space was built by Lake View Contracting and was designed by National Restaurant Designers.

Alaskans can find out when the doughnuts are hot and may collect rewards by using the Krispy Kreme Hot Light mobile app at Krispy Kreme unveiled its first Snapchat geofilter for the grand opening in Anchorage. Follow the local store on Facebook, or on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat @KrispyKremeAK. Customers are encouraged to share their experiences by using the hashtag #KrispyKremeAK.
